Dog Boarding Kennels

Purpose built, spacious and heated accommodation for your dog

Tutehill Kennels & Cattery are able to offer Dog Kennel Services to dog owners across West Cumbria, that are going on holiday or who want their animals cared for during the day when they’re at work. Covering towns such as Workington, Whitehaven, Cockermouth, Aspatria, Egremont, Maryport, Cleator Moor and all surrounding towns.

Standard, Quiet and Outside Run Kennels

We have a large selection of different size kennels with covered outside runs. We go by the size of the dog as to the size of the kennel to use. They have a hatch which we open in the morning so they can choose to go in and out throughout the day. They are only usually closed during cleaning and at the end of the day.

There are a few kennels that don’t have outside runs, however we not only provide the recommended walks under the new Government Legislation but we also provide a minimum of 4 toilet breaks throughout the day too.

We also have kennels that are very quiet and situated away from our larger buildings, which are great for quiet, timid, nervous or elderly dogs.
All our kennels have privacy sections so the dogs can choose not to look at the dogs opposite or they can look through the doorways.

Our buildings are either partitioned off with full height block walls in between the kennels or 3/4 high panels. Most of our outside runs have full height block walls. This helps reduce cross contamination as well as keeping noise levels to a minimum. This is also a brilliant safety feature as the dogs from one kennel to another cannot see each other and can relax and chill in their runs.

We have a selection of building with only 2 or 3 kennels in that are extra quiet which again are great for quiet, nervous, timid or elderly dogs.

All of our kennels are heated with infrared heat lamps or central heating and ventilated. All of our sockets are situated high up out of the reach of the dogs and cats for safety.

We also have background music on during the day and treats at bedtime.

Individual Rooms & Speciality Suites

As well as our standard kennels we also have a variety of VIP accommodation for you to choose for your dogs that can suit their individual needs. We have Luxury Living Room Style Accommodation and various Speciality Suites that cater for puppies (from 14 weeks old) and tiny breed dogs.

  • Deluxe Rooms – offer quiet individual living room style accommodation with outside runs, which are ideal for medium aged or older dogs.

  • Dinky Dog Suite – Individual mini rooms for all tiny breeds of dogs. This is a warm, comfortable and safe environment.

  • Little Rascals Suite – A very special nursery style suite purely for puppies and young Dogs from 14 weeks old up to 12-24 months old to integrate them into coming into kennels.

For more detailed info and photos, please refer to the ‘Individual Rooms & Suites’ web page:

We accept all breeds and cater for dogs with behavioural problems. We take great pride in the care we offer all dogs and cats that stay with us, no matter how little, big, grumpy or timid they are, we take the time to get to know their individual personalities.

Full Multi-Sensory Enrichment Program

Here at Tutehill Kennels and Cattery we now run a Full Multi-Sensory Enrichment Program, daily for all the Dogs and Cats in our care.

Canine and Feline Enrichment is an important process of making an Animals environment more interesting and stimulating.

This is a Voluntarily Interaction and as a result experiences improve Physical and Mental Health.

The program includes:

  • Sound, Smell, Visual, Taste, Mental, Physical, Social (People)

Our Enrichment Programs purpose is to prevent boredom and behavioural problems. It is to make Kennel stays with us much more, fun, interesting and exciting and will ensure that your pet has a very happy holiday.

Individual Dog Walking & Exercise

The Kennels are set in 20 acres of beautiful Cumbrian Countryside with excellent grounds, where your pets are walked for a minimum of 20 minutes and or 20 minutes in one of our four play parks at least twice per day whilst on holiday with us. This is in line with the new Government Legislation.

We also offer extra walks and a minimum of four toilet breaks for dogs who’s kennel does not have an outside run in line with the new Government Legislation.

All of the dogs are walked individually across approx. 6 acres of lush green land, which we own. We offer “individual walks only” and do not mix dogs from different Families.

We have different sections available, all secure and gated so the dogs feel safe and enjoy their walks on a one to one with a member of staff. This is brilliant for any dogs who may be timid, or wary of other dogs.

We usually walk all the dogs on the lead, or extending leads, but we do however have facilities to let dogs off the lead once they get to know us. This is really good for lively dogs and young puppies so they can have a good run round and burn off some energy. We will obviously only do this once the dogs get to know us and with Owners written permission.

We have secure enclosures, Play Parks, where your dog can be individually let off the lead for a good run, play with toys or use the agility equipment.

Feeding, Special Diets & Treats

We are able to offer many different types of dog/cat food, which keeps most of the dogs and cats happy. Special diets are also catered for and tasty treats are given at bedtime.

However we cannot stock all the vast range but we can feed personal diets if the food is supplied.
